Hobart Bay

Hobart bay is an inlet just inside Tracy Arm.  It is one of the few good spots to anchor inside Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm.  One of the things that was different from sailing in the Virgin Islands was that there are not as many good spots to anchor.  One of the reasons for this is that most of the inlets are very fjord like.   So the bottom drops of very quickly as you move away from the shore.  The tides were the other most significant difference.  We learned very quickly that you had to time your traveling with the tides.  As the tide came in or out of these passages, swift currents build up, and if they were going against you, then you might be making several knots relative to the current, but little or no headway relative to the land.  That was one of the reasons we didn't get here on the first day.  The weather was better this day, and we took some good pictures.  Up until this point, we hadn't seen much wildlife.

Here is a view around Hobart bay.

The next day, we went down Tracy Arm to the face of a glacier.
