It took us until April to get the inspectors there to look at all of the damage.   After that, it took until August to get them to settle the insurance claim for the damages.  For these damages, we were offerred $1697.    As you may have guessed, we don't consider that sufficient.

So that is currently where it stands.  Now you know why I will never use United Van Lines again.

Not quite.  As of now (October), they are re-settling the claim.  I called up and complained to the insurance guy's boss.  I said that it had taken much too long, and that he was not very responsive in the first place.  I immediately got a new insurance person who has been very responsive and has been upping all of the payouts.   I don't know why they couldn't have done this in the first place.  Maybe they hope that most people will be stupid (or meek) enough to just take what they are offered and go away.  I suppose the lesson to be learned here is to complain.  A lot (politely though).  I will update this when we know the final offer.

The final settlement was over $4500.  Just goes to show that you shouldn't give up.  I had to explain to them that I was not going to go away, or forget about this.  I think that their strategy is to make the entire process as annoying as possible, assuming that most people will just get frustrated and give up.  It still doesn't make up for all of the losses (or the hassle), but it was better than nothing.  And better than $1697.
